Décédé à la maison où il a passé la majeure partie de sa vie, le jeudi 29 avril 2021 en sa 87e année.
Fils de feu John Garfat et feu Freda Wannerton. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse des 59 dernières année Donna Embury, leurs enfants Jennifer, feu David, Donald (Mary Wright) et Tim.
Il était le frère de feu Dorothy Mackey Colby, Douglas (Carrol Brown), Ron (Eileen Henderson), feu Frances Chaplin et Ginny (David McLachlan). Il était le fier grand-père de Michel, Daniel, Patrick, Ashley, Will, Maggie, Joshua, Matthew, feu Jesse, Emily et Priscilla. Arrière grand-père de Valentino. Il laisse également dans le deuil Michel Duquette, France Rousseau et plusieurs nièces, neveux et amis.
Malgré que Gordon ait quitté l’école à l’âge de 14 ans pour aider sur la ferme, il a réussi, avec détermination et persévérance à tripler la grandeur de la ferme ancestrale. Il adorait l’agriculture, particulièrement ses chevaux et son bétail. Sa deuxième passion était la route - il amenait du bétail vers Montréal à partir des années 50, et plus tard ramenait de l’équipement agricole des communautés Mennonite de l’Ontario ainsi que des chevaux du Manitoba. Lors de ses allées, il amenait avec lui des voyageurs de l’Estrie pour leur faire découvrir la région de Waterloo en Ontario. On le décrivait comme étant un homme honnête, travaillant et toujours prêt à aider les autres.
