Pour l’avoir côtoyé au sein de différents comités, Jim était un bénévole très impliqué dans l’administration et le développement du curling et nous avons tous profité de son implication, de sa compétence et de son expérience. Sincères condoléances à toute la famille. Jim a été un grand bénévole et un ambassadeur pour le développement du curling dans notre région. Je l’ai côtoyé dans différents comités et événements et il n’a jamais été avare de son temps pour m’épauler et partager ses connaissances étendues en curling. C’était aussi un fier compétiteur. Il laisse un grand vide dans notre sport et il manquera à tous les curseurs, curleuses.

On behalf of the Governor General’s Curling Club, we offer our sincere condolences to Jim’s family and friends. Jim was a member since 2003, served as President of the Quebec Curling Federation, was an Honourary Life Member of the Canadian Branch of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club, and participated in the 2009 Strathcona Cup.

Ma chère grande sœur préférée, mon cher Robin et ma très chère Kimberly..... Vickie, Ghyslain, Tyler, Bryan, Casey, Myles, Brooke, James et Connor. Charles et moi sommes dévastés par la subite mort de Jim. Je connaissais Jim depuis le tout début de sa relation avec ma sœur Hélène ( deuxième mère pour moi!) Ce bel homme fut depuis le premier jour le bienvenue dans notre famille des Parent/Lapierre. Il m'a beaucoup aidé dans ma jeune carrière de curling. C'est avec Larry, son frère, que j'ai gagné le premier trophée junior Tom Cumby. Que de beaux souvenirs. Des mémoires, nous en avons créées.....visites à la ferme de St-Félix-de-Kingsey ; concours du plus beau canard à la Foire de Richmond avec Blanche Mastine; des vacances dans l'ouest canadien ; nos vacances en Hollande; toutes ses visites chez-nous en Espagne et en Afrique du Sud....etc....le plus beau cadeau qu'il m'aura fait c'est ses deux enfants et indirectement ses petits-enfants. Je vous adore tous, ainsi que Charles. Nous vous souhaitons à tous....Blanche, famille Mastine et famille Parent, toute la force dans ces moments trop difficiles. Nous sommes 100% avec vous ....malheureusement au loin. Il nous sera impossible d'y être. Mais je peux vous rassurer que vous êtes tous dans nos cœur comme Myles à très bien formulé. Avec tout notre amour de l'Afrique du Sud. Charles et René.

My dear favorite big sister, my dear Robin and my dearest Kimberly..... Vickie, Ghyslain, Tyler, Bryan, Casey, Myles, Brooke, James and Connor. Charles and I are devastated by Jim’s sudden death. I knew Jim from the very beginning of his relationship with my sister Hélène (second mother for me!) This handsome man was welcome in our family of Parents/Lapierre since the first day. He helped me a lot in my young curling career. It was with Larry, his brother, that I won the first Tom Cumby junior trophy. All beautiful memories. Memories, we have created..... visits to the farm of St-Félix-de-Kingsey; contest for the most beautiful duck at the Richmond Fair with Blanche Mastine; a vacation in western Canada; our vacation in Holland; all his visits to-us in Spain and in South Africa....etc....the most beautiful gift he will have given me is his two children and indirectly his grandchildren. I adore you all, as well as Charles. We wish you all.... Blanche, Mastine family and Parent family, all the strength in these too difficult moments. We are 100% with you .... unfortunately in the distance. It will be impossible for us to be there. But I can reassure you that you are all in our hearts like Myles has very well formulated. With all our love for South Africa. Charles and René.

My deepest sympathy. Jim’s mentoring and leadership at the curling club will be missed by all.

We join with so many others who knew Jim in offering our deepest sympathy on his passing. Although it is little consolation at this sad time, it should be of some satisfaction to know that in his passing you can celebrate the end of a very long and productive life. A life that he enjoyed and shared with friends and family. His love for curling and his family are the envy of many. Michael and I believe that the measure of a life well-lived is not in how much money one has or what possessions they have accumulated, but rather through the lives they touched and the sorrow they leave behind. If the outpouring of sympathy on his loss is any indication, and it most certainly is, you can proudly and confidently say that his indeed was a life well-lived. May you find peace and comfort in knowing that his loss is felt by all who knew and loved him.

It was a shock to learn of Jim's passing. Our deepest sympathies to his family, we both had the pleasure of working with Jim in the curling world. He most certainly left his mark, as a kind gentleman who worked very hard to make this world a better place. He will be missed.

J’ai eu le grand plaisir de connaitre Jim en étant secrétaire de l’Association régionale de curling de l’Estrie (ARCE) alors qu’il en était le président. J’ai pu mesurer son « amour » du curling, son investissement à en faire la promotion et à en garder les traces historiques. J’ai aussi pu le voir en action dans des tournois de curling et même dans des tournois de golf pour Curling Québec. Quelle belle personnalité! Je ne peux qu’imaginer la peine que son départ cause dans le coeur de sa famille et de ses nombreux amis. Toutes mes plus sincères condoléances.

It is with a heavy heart that I share some thoughts on behalf of the Cumby family. The Mastine's, Parent's and Cumby's can be considered one big family! We have shared many joyous adventures and supported each other through tough times. We played hard as kids and eventually grew up, getting married, having children and grandchildren of our own. All of which has given us immense joy and memories to treasure. Jim was my "BEST " man. His ability to listen and offer advice was certainly a trait of his and I wish I had followed more often. Let us remember that his love and his passion for life will live on in all of us as we keep his sprit alive! Farewell Buddy! LOVE Tom & the Cumby Family.

I met Jim when I was 15, and somehow, from that very first moment, he became one of the constants in my life. For 55 years, he wasn’t just a friend — he was family. When he brought me to Quebec all those years ago, his family welcomed me with such open hearts that I knew I’d found a second home. The famous Mastine teasing sealed the deal. As life unfolded, our families blended in that same easy, natural way. When I married Drew and we had our kids, Jim and his family wrapped the Youngs in their love without a second thought. Those Easter weekends at the farm — the maple syrup, the hot dogs in sap, the baby lambs — they’re some of the sweetest memories we have. And then came Hélène. Even before she spoke much English, her kindness spoke for her. She became like another sister to me, and watching her and Jim build their life together — full of love, laughter, children, grandchildren, and generosity — was one of the great joys of my life. Even with the miles between us, we stayed close. We travelled, golfed, played cards, walked the dogs, spent time at the Parent cottage, and talked on the phone like no time had passed at all. Losing him has shattered our hearts. He left far too soon, and there was still so much we wanted to do. One of my favourite memories — one I’ll hold onto forever — is the day we wandered around the top of Table Mountain in South Africa. Just the two of us, taking our time, talking, taking photos, soaking in the beauty. I’m so grateful for that day. Thank you Rene for organizing that one! Jim was the best kind of person — a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and the truest friend anyone could hope for. He touched every life around him, and he will be missed more than words can say. My family, the Timmons, and the Youngs will carry his memory with us always, and we will stand beside his family in whatever way they need. Rest in peace, our dear friend. We love you.
