Norman Robert McVittie Jr. (“Bob”), a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and lifelong resident of North Hatley, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at the age of 94.
Born in Lennoxville, on January 3, 1932, to Robert McVittie Sr. and Gertrude Morrissette, Bob spent his early years immersed in family life and hard work. From a young age, he contributed to the family farm, where he developed the strong work ethic, resilience, and quiet determination that would define him throughout his life.
Bob began his career at Ingersoll Rand as a patternmaker apprentice. Through dedication and skill, he rose steadily through the ranks to become a highly respected patternmaker and ultimately manager of the department, a role he held with pride until his retirement. His work was marked by precision, craftsmanship, and a deep sense of responsibility.
In retirement, Bob continued to do what he loved most—working with his hands. An accomplished carpenter and passionate farmer, he found joy and purpose in building, creating, and tending to the land. Whether crafting with wood or working outdoors, he took immense pride in everything he did.
A descendant of a British Home Child, Bob carried with him a profound appreciation for family, heritage, and perseverance. He was a steady and caring presence, known for his kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Bob leaves behind his beloved wife, Ann McVittie (Little), with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He will be dearly missed by his children, Jeff (Laurie), Dana (Mario), and Greg (Kim); his cherished grandchildren, Stephanie (Garrett), Caleigh (Jon), Tamara (Matt), Katryna (Ryan), Melyssa, Eric, and Jacqueline; and his great-grandchildren, Austin, Paisley, Kensley, and Annie, who brought him great joy.
Bob will also be fondly remembered by his many dear friends and family, whose lives were enriched by his presence and unwavering sense of humour.
Bob’s legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the family he cherished, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery on September 26, 2026, at 11:00, followed by a celebration of life at the North Hatley Curling Club.
