Anne McCormick passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on January 2, 1934, in Morgantown, West Virginia, USA, to Fred McCormick and Margaret Anne Ball, Anne lived a full and remarkable life. Anne graduated cum laude from the University of West Virginia. In her early adult years, she enjoyed horseback riding. In 1976, she followed her husband Mark to Montreal, beginning a new chapter of her life in Canada, where she embraced her new winter home by taking up cross-country skiing until an injury brought her days on the trails to an end. Anne went on to a distinguished career at McGill University, serving in the Dean's Office, Faculty of Medicine, as Executive Assistant and Chief of Staff to the Dean from 1976 until her retirement in 1996. She was a pillar of the McGill community and a guiding light behind many of the university's innovative projects and initiatives. She was also a member of the University Women's Club. Gourmet cooking and entertaining were among Anne's greatest passions — she loved trying and creating new recipes, always with a glass of white wine in hand while she cooked and hosted. She was equally passionate about classical music and opera. An avid birdwatcher, Anne contributed to the Audubon bird count for many years, and — despite her feathered friends — was also a devoted cat lover. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Fred McCormick and Margaret Anne Ball; her brothers, Fred Jr. and John; her first husband, Mark Sloman; her second husband, Dr. Louis Fortin. She is survived by her husband, David Wilson, and his children, Vicky (Ben) and Patrick (Livia); the children of her second husband, Louis: Marquis (the late Richard), Louis Jr. (Gabrielle), the late Sylvie (Guy), Brigitte (Don), Bernard (Suzanne), and Nathalie; her nephew, John McCormick (Belinda) and his family; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and by numerous former colleagues and many dear friends. At the Faculty of Medicine, Anne was a mentor to many women, teaching, encouraging, and pushing them to become more than they thought they could be. She had a way of daring people into things — an arched eyebrow, a challenge to their curiosity — and if they took the bait, she'd send them off with "Go get 'em, tiger." One young colleague, whom Anne once called "a diamond in the rough," would say she spent years trying to make good on that description — and that what began as mentorship grew into one of the closest friendships of her life. To her, Anne wasn't just a mentor. She was family. Née le 2 janvier 1934 à Morgantown (Virginie-Occidentale, États-Unis), de Fred McCormick et de Margaret Anne Ball, Anne a vécu une vie pleine et remarquable. Elle a obtenu son diplôme avec mention cum laude de la West Virginia University. Au début de sa vie adulte, elle s'adonnait à l'équitation. En 1976, elle a suivi son mari Mark à Montréal, entamant ainsi un nouveau chapitre de sa vie au Canada. Elle y a adopté l'hiver québécois en se mettant au ski de fond, jusqu'à ce qu'une blessure mette fin à ses sorties en sentier. Anne a mené une carrière remarquable à l'Université McGill, au Bureau du doyen de la Faculté de médecine, où elle a occupé le poste d'adjointe exécutive et de chef de cabinet du doyen de 1976 jusqu'à sa retraite, en 1996. Pilier de la communauté mcgilloise, elle a été l'une des grandes inspiratrices de nombreux projets et initiatives novateurs de l'Université. Elle était également membre du Club des femmes universitaires. La grande cuisine et l'art de recevoir figuraient parmi ses plus grandes passions : elle adorait essayer et créer de nouvelles recettes, toujours un verre de vin blanc à la main, que ce soit aux fourneaux ou en recevant ses invités. Elle vouait la même passion à la musique classique et à l'opéra. Ornithologue amateur passionnée, elle a participé pendant de nombreuses années au dénombrement des oiseaux d'Audubon et, malgré ses amis à plumes, elle était aussi une grande amoureuse des chats. Anne a été précédée dans la mort par ses parents, Fred McCormick et Margaret Anne Ball; ses frères, Fred Jr. et John; son premier mari, Mark Sloman; et son deuxième mari, le Dr Louis Fortin. Elle laisse dans le deuil son époux, David Wilson, et les enfants de celui-ci, Vicky (Ben) et Patrick (Livia); les enfants de son deuxième mari, Louis : Marquis (feu Richard), Louis Jr. (Gabrielle), feue Sylvie (Guy), Brigitte (Don), Bernard (Suzanne) et Nathalie; son neveu, John McCormick (Belinda) et sa famille; de nombreux petits-enfants et arrière-petits-enfants par alliance; ainsi que de nombreux anciens collègues et de très chers amis. À la Faculté de médecine, Anne a été la mentore de nombreuses femmes, qu'elle enseignait, encourageait et poussait à se dépasser. Elle avait l'art de lancer des défis : un sourcil arqué, une invitation à la curiosité, et si l'on mordait à l'hameçon, elle vous envoyait de l'avant avec un « Go get 'em, tiger ». Une jeune collègue, qu'Anne avait un jour qualifiée de « diamant brut », dirait qu'elle a passé des années à essayer de se montrer à la hauteur de cette description, et que ce qui avait commencé par du mentorat est devenu l'une des amitiés les plus chères de sa vie. Pour elle, Anne n'était pas seulement une mentore. Elle faisait partie de la famille.
