Cheryl Elizabeth Colby, 58, of Coaticook, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, after a valiant battle with cancer with her husband, Paul Loiselle, by her side. Until the very end, Cheryl was a pillar of positivity, urging us to remember all the good memories she leaves us with.
Cheryl was born on February 5, 1967, to Florence French (late Durwood), and the late Walter George “Jack” Colby. Cheryl married her late husband, Leslie Phaneuf, in 1989 and went on to have two children, Jessica and Ivan. She also leaves behind two stepdaughters, Christina (Robert) and Anne-Marie (Anthony) and their children and grand-children.
Cheryl spent her early years in North Hatley. She and Leslie lived and raised their children in Stanstead.
Cheryl is survived by her five siblings, Karen (Don), Marlene (Richard), Mervin, Steven (Roxanne) and John (Linda). Cheryl also leaves to mourn a broken-hearted and supportive group of relatives, including nieces and nephews, foster and stepsiblings, brothers- and -sisters-in-law and countless friends.
Cheryl had an impact on each person she interacted with and her loss is deeply felt by all who loved her. Her love of animals and zest for life was contagious. She lived her life to the fullest, despite her many challenges. Her memory will continue to live on and inspire strength, resilience, and kindness in those whose lives she touched.
Service will be held at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 48 Chem. Couture, Magog, on February 7 at 2 p.m.
The family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to Barbara McCormick Paxton, the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and the palliative care team at Hôtel-Dieu for their support throughout her illness and death.
Donations to the CHUS Foundation dedicated to the Palliative Care Unit of Hôtel-Dieu would be appreciated.
