BURNS, Joyce Elsie (née Hannan)

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing, on June 6, 2026, of Joyce Elsie Burns (née Hannan), daughter of the late Charles Adolphis “Cecil” Hannan and the late Lilith Elsie Hattie Brock. Joyce was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

She was a devoted mother to her sons, Robert “Shawn” Burns (Chrystal Burns) and Daniel Allan Burns, and a dutiful and proud grandmother to Emma‑Jane Burns, Hannah Piper Burns, Shawn Zachary Burns, and Jack Robert Burns. She was directly involved in their upbringing, education, and language training.

Joyce was predeceased by her husband, John Robert Burns, who lies interned in Ste. Bibiane’s cemetery in Richmond. She is also the 4th of 12 children, predeceased by her siblings Doris, Stanley, Mary, John, Walter, and Joseph. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters May, Betty and Joan and her brothers Will and Edmond and sister-in-law Barbara, along with many extended family members and friends.

After travelling with Bob across North America and Europe, she focused on raising her children with great care and devotion. Joyce went on to build a second career with the Birks jewellery chain, managing stores in Belleville, Kitchener, and Surrey, British Columbia. She was healthy, vibrant, and full of humour and is sorely missed.

A visitation will be held on Friday June 19th between 4-6 pm at CASS Funeral Home, 295 Rue Principale Sud, in Richmond, Quebec.

The funeral will take place at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, June 20th at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Denison Mills, 468 Rue Denison with a burial to follow, at the same location. The family will receive condolences at the church from 10:00 a.m.
