Born in Verdun, Quebec, Glenys was the eldest daughter of William Mantle, a Welsh train mechanic, and Martha Coates from England. Raised in a modest but adventure-filled home, she and her sister Olwen shared many stories of exploring along the St. Lawrence River and daring boat trips across the Lachine Rapids during summers on “the island.”

In high school, Glenys met Stan Groves, the love of her life. They married in 1957 and settled in Lennoxville in 1963 when Stan joined the Economics Department at Bishop’s University.

A dedicated community builder, Glenys co-founded the Lennoxville Skating Club, taught Sunday School, led Cub Scouts as “Rakshaw,” helped establish the Block Parent program, and was active in the Lennoxville Art Group and United Church Women. She loved dancing, gardening, and painting. She volunteered widely and played a key role in the family business, the Golden Lion Pub.

Her greatest joy was time spent with her family. She was the spark behind family traditions and created unforgettable memories that will be cherished forever.

Glenys was predeceased by her husband Stan. She is survived by her sisters Olwen (Clem) Sheppard and Bronwen Mantle; her children Stan (Julie), Stephen (Tiffany), Valerie (Charles), Kevin (Chantal), and Cara (Joe); her grandchildren Michael, Brian, Sydney, Kelsey, Cody, Carly, Adam, Kyla, Sam and Lola; and three great-grandchildren Cole, Chase, and Maddie.

A visitation will be held at Cass Funeral Home, 3006 College St., Lennoxville, on Friday, June 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Lennoxville United Church, 6 Church St., on Saturday, June 27 at 11 a.m. Live stream the funeral: https://www.youtube.com/live/r0gvRsUSN6Y?si=CSOA8QJ1fMGjhljv

A Celebration of Life will follow at the Golden Lion Pub from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Aube Lumière, Sun Youth (Jeunesse au Soleil), or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
