Andrew McGregor Grant, M.D., FRCPC, DPhil, FACMI
1946 – 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Andrew McGregor Grant, who died peacefully at home on May 1st, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born in Newcastle, England, he devoted his professional life to research. A pioneer in the field of medical informatics, his career was dedicated to improving healthcare and services. A visionary at heart, Dr. Andrew Grant participated in the creation of the Société québécoise d'information biomédicale et de la santé (SoQibs) He is also responsible for the creation of the Collaboration in Research for Effectiveness in Diagnostics (CRED). Andrews’ work is at the origin of the growth of digital health research in Sherbrooke. He also became one of the few Canadians to be elected a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics.
Andrew was deeply passionate about the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and was a lifelong supporter of Newcastle United FC, loyalties that reflected both the depth and spirit of his character. He made his home in Ulverton, Quebec since 1989, where he built a life rooted in family, music, and thoughtful inquiry.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Gwyneth Helen Grant, his children Thomas McGregor Grant (Elena Celedonio), Tristan Jacob Grant (Charlotte Chabanne), and Imogen Carlotta Rose Grant (Daniel Findahl), and his cherished grandchildren, Siv Siale, Victor and Colette Grant, and William James Grant. He also leaves behind his sister Sarah Rowell, and his brothers Nick, Stephen, and Jonathan.
A wake will be held at Les Vallons de Wadleigh in Ulverton on Friday, May 16th, between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m., for all those who wish to share their condolences and memories.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 17th at Ulverton United Church, 159 Route 143.
Visitation begins at 2:00 p.m.
Formal service at 3:00 p.m.
Followed by the burial in the churchyard.

Né à Newcastle, en Angleterre, il a consacré sa vie professionnelle à la recherche. Pionnier dans le domaine de l'informatique médicale, il a consacré sa carrière à l'amélioration des soins de santé et des services. Visionnaire dans l'âme, le Dr Andrew Grant a participé à la création de la Société québécoise d'information biomédicale et de la santé (SoQibs). Il est également à l'origine de la création de la Collaboration en recherche pour l'efficacité diagnostique (CRED). Les travaux d'Andrews sont à l'origine de l'essor de la recherche en santé numérique à Sherbrooke. Il est également devenu l'un des rares Canadiens à être élu Fellow de l'American College of Medical Informatics.
Andrew était profondément passionné par la musique de Jean-Sébastien Bach et a toujours soutenu le Newcastle United FC, une loyauté qui reflétait à la fois la profondeur et l'esprit de sa personnalité. Il habite à Ulverton, au Québec, depuis 1989, où il a bâti une vie ancrée dans la famille, la musique et la réflexion.
Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Gwyneth Helen Grant, ses enfants Thomas McGregor Grant (Elena Celedonio), Tristan Jacob Grant (Charlotte Chabanne) et Imogen Carlotta Rose Grant (Daniel Findahl), ainsi que ses chers petits-enfants Siv Siale, Victor et Colette Grant, et William James Grant. Il laisse également dans le deuil sa sœur Sarah Rowell et ses frères Nick, Stephen et Jonathan.
Une veillée funèbre aura lieu aux Vallons de Wadleigh à Ulverton le vendredi 16 mai, de 17 h à 19 h, pour tous ceux qui souhaitent partager leurs condoléances et leurs souvenirs.
Les funérailles auront lieu le samedi 17 mai à l'église unie d'Ulverton, au 159, route 143.
Les visites débuteront à 14 h. Cérémonie solennelle à 15 h.
Suivi de l'enterrement au cimetière.
